I haven't posted much about medical school lately, but I thought this would be a great week to do so. Dustin's school, WVSOM, is having a spirit week celebrating osteopathy. I thought I would post a link if you were interested in learning more.
Basically when Dustin graduates from WVSOM he will have the letters "D.O." following his name rather than "M.D.". When he graduates, he can take the D.O. and/or M.D. exams and be certified in one or both. Both medical approaches are equally qualified and able to do everything from prescribe medicine to perform surgery. It might be interesting for you to look at the letters following your doctor's name. You might be surprised to see D.O. rather than M.D. I know that I had been seen by many D.O.s and didn't even realize it. That's because there isn't much difference, except the philosophy of osteopathy is that D.O.s focus on your body as a source for healing rather than going immediately to medicine and prescriptions.
