Today Dustin and I were laughing and thinking about all the things we didn't know or expect three months ago. You know these babies don't come with any instructions or manual. We are so glad that we were both praying for wisdom about parenthood the ENTIRE pregnancy. We knew it would be and will continue to be quite a journey!! Here is our list.
We never expected.....
...how alert she was and the head control she had from birth.
...to be grossed out by the umbilical cord remains those first few weeks.
...to be so nervous with those first baths....with the umbilical cord.
...the first few days of poo to be the consistency of tar and just as black as tar.
...that our first instinct when another human puked would be to CATCH it! (who knew?!)
...to recognize the specific smell of another human's poop.
...to be EXCITED when we see two to three poops each day. (constipation can't be fun)
...that a baby this young would drool SO MUCH!! She's gotta be getting dehydrated from the loss of liquids. ha ha
...that a human could eat every two hours of life for the first two and a half months!!!
...her to recognize us and our voices so early.
...that she would LOVE to be held almost ALL the time.
...how much of a mirror she is. When I stick out my tongue she tries. When I open my mouth she does. When I smile she does.
...that a pacifier can be a lifesaver.
...how much random advice we would get from EVERY mother everywhere we go even when we don't know them. They all know best, of course.
...how difficult it is to soothe a screaming baby who is sitting in a rear facing carseat while I am driving. IMPOSSIBLE!!
...how much she would be confused for a boy.
...that she would be just like her Daddy and get grumpy when she is tired.
...her leg to turn BLUE when someone got the diaper too tight. (I asked permission to use this one)
...her to KNOW when you are standing or sitting while holding her. Gotta be standing!
...to have taken over 1,000 pictures already.
...that the lightest sleeper in the house (Dustin) would become the heaviest sleeper. hmmmmmmm
...that this list would be mostly about bodily functions!! But that's pretty much what birth to three months is about!
Bring on the rest!!

Ha ha! I love it. What a great idea for a post on your blog. I totally agree with so many of those.
