The gumbo was delicious, and I don't even like cajun food that much.
The King's cake....well, let's just say that I am glad our desserts include chocolate, strawberries, lemon, etc. The King's cake is really more like a sweet bread....not what I would call a dessert or cake at all. Whoever gets the baby that is inserted into the cake is supposed to hold the Mardi Gras party the next year. Here's an interesting tidbit of information for you. During the Great Depression many children would get in trouble with their parents if they brought home the baby because money was so short they were afraid they could not afford to host a party the next year. It's not like the poor children could help it. The baby is hidden until you bite into it.
